The ASG RASA 11″ Dew Shield is a a 3d print design that incorporates many of the features that are lacking in today’s dew shields for astrographs. Our ASG dew shield provides easy access magnetic ports for filter slider access without any need to remove the dew shield or reach inside.
After working with the Celestron RASA line of product for some time, it was apparent that a few accessories could really increase the usability of this instrument. Not only did we invent the Electronically Assisted Tilt (EAT) to perform well on an F/2 RASA 11, but we also designed our own take on a usable dew shield that is modular, and available to anyone who can 3d print.
It prints on nearly any small 3D printer and we provide full instructions within the download.
Filter Slider Access Ports
The modular design comes in a lower and upper ring system. The lower 4 panels offer 2 magnetic hatches so you can remove your filter sliders either in the 0 degree orientation, or the 90 degree orientation. While most astrophotographers will keep their filter sliders and camera in either orientation, this makes for a modular design.
Cable Diffraction Guide
Most RASA users will route the cabling down low to exit under the dew shields, but we make it so you can exit at the top using our diffraction minimizing cable guide. Each modular top section can accommodate a cable guide, so depending on what fits your setup needs, rotate the guide on any of the 4 upper panels. We provide both a rounded cable diffraction guide to minimize stars, but also a straight thin-splined 4 point diffraction system to route cable and accentuate thin diffraction spikes if needed.
Secure Mounting
We mount the entire unit onto the RASA 11, but secure it with an upper bolt to your orange losmandy rail. This insures your Dew Shield can’t slip or slide off.
Use Quality Carbon Infused Materials
The dew shield is designed to print in any material when you use your 3D printer, however, we highly recommend a good quality PETG-CF or better filament. Lower grade PLA will warp and cause problems if in the sun for more than a few minutes.
Covered Lid and Light Panel Compatible
Take sky flats as usual or now you can point to zenith and use a flat light panel over the entire camera assembly. With our built-in cable management under the lid path, it can point to zenith and panels can lay flat across the top, or simply cover your entire setup with our magnetic cover while you wait for the clouds to leave.
